July 3rd, 1:30 am I caught and released my personal best musky. This one measured 54", weighed 42 lbs, was the largest musky caught in VA in 2008 and 3 1/2 lbs shy of the state record. It was featured in the Oct/Nov issue of www.muskyhunter.com

Musky Innovations rods used exclusively on all musky trips.

(  PHOTO BELOW )       A client who had booked a 5 hour night trip during prime time cancelled at the last minute and I was unable to fill the spot on short (actually NO ) notice, so I went musky fishing.  I caught and released this 48" musky.

A couple of big New River musky (photo left - December) ( photo right - early summer)  A 49"er that crushed my lure after dark. [ go to my muskie  page for another recent night time monster ]You don't have to travel to the northern states or Canada to have the opportunity to fish for monster musky. The New River is home to these freshwater beast!

I guide on the New River out of a "Clackacraft Drift Boat" and a Tracker "Grizzly" 17' Mercury powered jet boat. Water conditions, location we fish , will determine which boat we use. The jet boat is equipped with a Mercury 60/40 hp jet and Minn Kota trolling motor w/i-pilot.  I  have modified this Clackacraft specifically for smallmouth & musky fishing on the New River.

( photo's above) Debby and I with a couple of recent back to back muskies caught minutes apart. Small for sure but proof that the DGIF stocking and management program is on the right track in the New River.

My late spring and summer night trips are best for catching big New River smallmouth like this 21"er about to be released.

A typical daytime "summer" New River smallmouth

All striper trips take place at Boone Lake [ March & April weekdays only ] and the summer months [ July thru mid August ] on the Tennessee River near Knoxville. You'll fish out of a 24' Carolina Skiff w/115 hp Suzuki 4 stroke, Minn kota terrova trolling motor and Lowrance electronics. Loadmaster aluminum trailer provided by Manteo Marine, Manteo NC.
